Water and Energy for Sustainable Agriculture

The Water and Energy for Sustainable Agriculture research group (AEAS) focuses on examining the sustainable use of water and energy in agriculture. Particularly noteworthy are its studies on energy efficiency in collective installations for distributing pressurized irrigation water at both pumping stations and in water distribution networks. AEAS has developed a methodology for determining the energy efficiency and it drafted the Energy Audit Protocol for Irrigation Communities (Protocolo de Auditoría Energética en Comunidades de Regantes). Likewise, water use efficiency is analyzed by assessing plot irrigation systems and the water balance in crops. Energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies are also examined at other agricultural installations, as well as the economic viability of the technology within the sector.
